Knee Pain

The knee joint is an incredibly strong, intricate and complex part of human anatomy. Its role is to provide strength, support, and flexibility while standing, walking, and bending down. The knee is a pivotal hinge joint, meaning it allows the leg to straighten and bend as well as slight turns to the left and right.

To allow the necessary movements and provide the strength, there are many structures in the knee joint that need to function well such as cartilage, ligaments, tendons and muscles. Problems occur when any of these parts of the knee joint start to degenerate or are in some way damaged or irritated. Pain originating from the knee can have a big impact on life, it may restrict the distance that you walk, it may make it difficult coming up and down stairs.

Thorough assessment and diagnosis is key to effective treatment. Many people seek osteopathic treatment to address knee pain quickly as osteopaths are skilled at helping prevent knee pain from becoming a chronic, long-term condition.  Many people also seek osteopathic treatment to help prolong the need for a knee replacement.
